What is Hair Transplantation?

Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure applied to people with hair loss to regrow their healthy hair. It is applied to all individuals of all ages who suffer from hair loss problems, do not have physiological diseases that prevent transplantation and have enough follicles in the donor area. A hair transplant is a permanent solution.

How is hair transplantation performed?

Follicles are collected from the donor area (the area between the two ears) and it is performed on the bald area. The grafts are taken from the nape area which is coded not to shed.It is performed under the local anesthesia.

The steps of a hair transplantation are as follows:

1.Collection of Grafts (Follicles)

The grafts are collected one by one when the donor area is ready for the operation. During this process, it is very important to not damage follicles. The craft contains skin and hair follicles and each graft contains an average of 2-3 hair follicles.

2.Opening Channels in The Hair Transplantation Area

One of the determinant factors is the growth rate of the transplanted hair should be in the corrected size and depth of the channels. It should be taken care when opening the channels according to the size and length of the transplanted hair follicle. The angle of the channels should be shaped well for a more natural appearance.

3.Transplantation of The Grafts (Follicles) into the Opened Channels

The collected grafts are placed into the opened channels at the 40-45 degree angle and hair transplantation is terminated.

What Are Hair Transplantation Methods?

What is Sapphire (FUE) Hair Transplantation?

In the Sapphire FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method, hair follicles are extracted one by one and transplanted to hairless or sparse hair areas. The feature of Sapphire FUE hair transplantation is that the tip of the cutting tool used during the hair transplantation contains sapphire crystal. Sapphire, as a precious metal, has antibacterial properties.

Advantages of Sapphire (FUE) Technique:

• The channels by the number of grafts required for hair transplantation are opened with a sapphire tip. Trauma on the scalp is minimized thanks to this sapphire tip.
• In the Sapphire technique, the rate of the frequent opened channels is more than DHI technique. While a maximum of 2000 – 2500 grafts are transplanted in the DHI technique, up to 7000-10000 grafts are transplanted in the Sapphire technique.
• Since three-dimensional channels are opened in the Sapphire technique, the natural angle of the hair can be provided much more easily.
• Sapphire FUE technique is the most preferred for people who will have hair transplantation; because the person has an extremely natural appearance as a result of hair transplantation.

Disadvantages of Sapphire (FUE) Technique:

• There are minor differences although the Sapphire FUE technique does not have many disadvantages. For instance, the operation time may take longer if 7000 grafts are transplanted.
• People with sparse hair, who are constantly in the public eye and in the media sector, such as businesspeople, artists, politicians, footballers, want to have a hair transplant without cutting their hair. It is only possible with DHI technique. People with sparse hair can be transplanted without shaving in DHI technique. However, hair transplantation cannot be performed without shaving the hair in the Sapphire FUE technique.

What is CHOI (DHI) Hair Transplantation?

CHOI (DHI) hair transplantation technique is one of the most commonly used methods. CHOI DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) is also known as pen technique. During the procedure, follicles are taken from the donor area using Choi pen and are implanted in the transplanted area.

The difference of DHI hair transplantation technique from the others is that channel opening and hair transplantation are performed at the same time. The collected hair follicles are placed in the CHOI pen. Thanks to the CHOI pen, both the channels are opened and the hair follicles are placed in the area to be transplanted at the same time.

What is Unshaven Hair Transplantation, How is it done?

Unshaven Hair Transplantation is a method that eliminates the need to completely shave the area to be transplanted. In this method, follicles taken from the donor area are placed in the transplantation area without shaving. It is mainly preferred by men and women with long hair. Follicles taken from the nape area, by opening a window, are transferred to the application area. Unshaven hair transplantation technique is predominantly applied in the temporal areas.

What is Stem Cell Hair Transplantation?

Stem cell hair transplantation is a method in which stem cells are used to stimulate the growth and regeneration of hair follicles. Stem cell hair transplantation is a newer method compared to the classical transplantation methods. According to the classical hair transplantation methods, hair follicles are taken from the donor area and transplanted to the bald area. In stem cell hair transplantation, stem cells are injected directly into the bald area and it is performed; therefore, the success rate of the hair transplantation process is increased by ensuring better adhesion of the follicles.

How Many Days Does Hair Transplantation Take?

What Are The Points To Be Considered Before Hair Transplantation?

• Stop smoking and taking aspirin 7 days before, and drinking caffeine, green tea and alcohol 3 days before the operation.
• Stop drugs, stimulants and pleasure-inducing substances 7 days before the operation.

• You should arrange a resting period of 2-3 days following the operation.
• You should be on an empty stomach on the morning of the operation.
• Prefer the buttoned up shirt style clothes when coming to the operation.

What Are The Points To Be Considered After Hair Transplantation?

• Be careful for one week after the hair transplant to not hit or rub your head.
• Do not consume cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, stimulants and pleasure-inducing substances for 7 days after the operation.
• Do not enter the hammam and sauna for 3 months.
• Do not swim in the pool or sea and do not sunbathe for 1 month after the operation.
• After the operation, medicines and lotions given by your physician should be used regularly and in accordance with the hours.
• The physician’s advice and recommendations should be followed and the special shampoo and care products should be used regularly after hair transplantation. Any external shampoo mustn’t be used.
• “Hair Transplantation Training Manual” describes in detail how to use the medicines, the details to be considered such as lying position, ice application and it is given to the patient after the operation.
